There are coloring books of every type available for a low price, plus there are pages on the web that you download for free. There are wonderful stained glass types of coloring books that you use colored pencils to color and then put the picture on a window facing the sun and the effect is truly fantastic. Every time you look at it you will re-capture the pleasure you had in creating your masterpiece.
And don’t forget about fruit as creative inspiration. You can see obvious mandalas when you cut citrus fruit in half. The segments of fruit surround a central stem and the seeds form additional decoration. Looking at a strawberry from the top down reveals a radiating pattern of seeds on a luscious bright red background.
And each mandala was a perfect snapshot of where I was - emotionally, psychologically, spiritually - at a particular time. That’s why I loved them so much in the moment: they were mirrors of my soul state. That’s when I knew that drawing mandalas can be a perfect tool to liberate our hidden truths, help us know ourselves, and evolve. I began working with my mandalas - reading them, I call it - in much the same way as you can interpret dreams.
Mandalas are geometric patterns starting from a central dot, working outward in repetitive patterns, often integrating symbols and vibrant color. A circle within a circle is a universal pattern full of symbolic meaning. It is simple yet contains an element of the eternal. Mandalas remind us of our relation to the infinite world both beyond and within our bodies and minds.
Similarly group mandalas offer many personal rewards but also incorporate cooperation and teamwork. These are wonderful expressions to celebrate workshops, events or special celebrations. Connections are strengthened and the use of symbolism explored as a group works together to create a representation of their time together.
This is just one way that drawing mandalas has opened up insights into my personal process, and helped me find appreciation for where I am in each phase of my life’s journey. It’s a big part of why I dearly love drawing my own mandalas, rather than buying ones that others have made. It’s a precious gift, to receive insight into ourselves. Try it yourself, and let the mandalas introduce you to the hidden beauty and potential within you!
